As members of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), we are able to enter the world of engineering and robotics. We are one of only 12 all-girls teams in California and one of only 35 all-girls teams in the world. Robotics is an extremely enriching experience for the girls on the team, as it prepares us to enter a field dominated by men, but has a great number of phenomenal opportunities for both genders. Through this wonderful experience, each of the team members learn great time management skills, cooperation, how to deal with stress and deadlines, public speaking skills, and how to think outside of the box when necessary. The Fembots also have the opportunity to open their minds to various career options and meet new and interesting people along the way.
Fembots' Future Goals
We, as a team and a family, hope to keep our team alive by showing old and new St. Francis Alumni that robotics is more than just about building a robot. We hope to overcome stereotypes and prejudices that have left limited opportunities in science and engineering for females. In addition, we hope to help our surrounding community more by promoting STEM education and to continue the dedication we have to assisting other teams in all areas of FIRST in their greatest times of need. And finally, we hope to keep the Fembot spirit alive by always working hard to achieve the difficult, but oh-so-satisfying goals, while making unforgettable moments with our teammates and mentors and relationships that last a lifetime.
